Colorful Fabric and Felt Coasters

I’ve been having so much fun setting up our new house, decorating, arranging furniture – and just in general getting all settled in. It’s been years since we have owned our own house and I can’t tell you how much fun it is putting just as many nails I want in my own walls.

Easy Fabric and Felt Coasters

I’ve been so focused on the big stuff – getting everything in its place and hanging things on the wall. And while that’s been really fun, it was so nice to sit down last week and make something cute and little! These colorful framed fabric coasters are so sweet and they were so fast to make!

Vintage Fabric Coasters

I used some little decorative frames from Michaels and backed them with vintage fabric and wool felt, all in different prints and colors. I love the way the felt shows through the cut outs in the frames.

Fabric and Felt Coasters

Wood frame and fabric coasters

These are super easy to make up – here’s what you’ll need:

  • 4 wooden mini frames
  • Paint for frames
  • four fabrics for inserts
  • small pieces of batting
  • wool felt for backing
  • Elmer’s CraftBond(R) Less Mess Hot Glue Sticks
  • Elmer’s Enhanced Safety, High Temp Mini Glue Gun
    • (These will be available at Michaels later this month – so these are brand new! Yay!)

Begin by painting your wood frames. You only need to paint the front and sides. You probably need a tiny brush to get in all the little openings.

Painting wood frames white

Measure the opening of the frames and cut four pieces of fabric just a little larger than the opening.

Small fabric squares

Did you know Elmer’s makes a hot glue gun? I didn’t! They kindly sent me one and I tried it out on this project.

Glue fabric to wood frame

Glue the fabric to the back of the frame. Don’t worry about the paint showing through, we’ll cover that up in a bit.

Fabric glued to frame

Place a small square of batting in the center of the fabric.

Batting on fabric

Trace the outer edge of the frame. Cut out a piece of felt a little smaller than the frame edge. Glue it in place around the edge of the frame.

Felt backing on coaster

Now you’ve got one coaster done!

Repeat for three more – or as many as you’d like to make!

Wood and Fabric Coasters

They make such a fun little splash of color on the table! They would be great gifts too!
