DIY Rubik's cube with free printables - Kittenhood

Do you ever miss the times when summer vacation meant you could dedicate days on end to a single task such a solving a Rubik’s cube? And it wasn’t like you could google the solution and watch the tutorial on YouTube. I do get nostalgic over those days sometimes, despite being so anchored in the interwebs that I rely on it for work, entertainment, news, and even socializing. On a related note, I absolutely loved this piece on life before the internet.

Which leads me to today’s project. Ok, the title may be a little misleading. You won’t make an actual plastic Rubik’s cube to twist and turn and puzzle yourself. These are made of paper. You can use them as boxes for small gifts or party favors. You can print out a bunch of them, put them on a string, and make a decorative garland! They’re also fun to have around, so. There’s a “modern” color version available, which you can see in the pictures, but I also made a “classic” one with the original colors of the cube if you’d rather go with that.

Print your favorite design version on A4 paper. Cut out the design. Fold the flaps towards the blank side. Similarly, fold the different sides of the cube. Put paper glue on each of the chevron flaps and assemble the cube. If you’re having doubts, watch the show video above to see how I assembled a cube!
